A data mining approach to computational taxonomy

    Get PDF
This study investigates an approach of knowledge discovery and data mining in insufficient databases. An application of Computational Taxonomy analysis demonstrates that the approach is effective in such a data mining process. The approach is characterized by the use ot both the second type of domain knowledge and visualization. This type of knowledge is newly defined in this study and deduced from supposition about background situations of the domain. The supposition is triggered by strong intuition about the extracted features in a recurrent process of data mining. This type of domain knowledge is useful not only for discovering interesting knowledge but al so tor guiding the subsequent search for more explicit and interesting knowledge. The visualization is very useful for triggering the supposition.Eje: Ingeniería de software y base de datosRed de Universidades con Carreras en Informática (RedUNCI

Computational Taxonomy for Identification of "Moving Groups" : Applied to Open Clusters

    Get PDF
A new method is presented here to identify the members of an open cluster, based on computational taxonomy: “the spectral method”. The characters used for the analysis are position and proper motion of all the stars belonging to the cluster’s region. Taxonomy allows to groups the stars together (OTU’s) in clusters, based on its genotypic characteristic, which shows the similarity, between two or more Stars (OTU’s). The method has been applied to open cluster NGC2516. The outcome list of members agrees very well with the one obtained by applying other methods.Facultad de Ciencias Astronómicas y GeofísicasInstituto de Astrofísica de La PlataFacultad de Ciencias Exacta

Spectra in taxonomic evidence in databases III : Application in celestial bodies. Asteroids families

    Get PDF
Numerical Taxonomy aims to group in clusters, using so-called structure analysis of operational taxonomic units (OTUs or taxons or taxa) through numerical methods. These clusters constitute families. Structural analysis, based on their phenotypic characteristics, exhibits the relationships, in terms of degrees of similarity, between two or more OTUs. Entities formed by dynamic domains of attributes, change according to taxonomical requirements: Classification of objects to form families or clusters. Taxonomic objects are here represented by application of the semantics of the Dynamic Relational Database Model. Families of OTUs are obtained employing as tools i) the Euclidean distance and ii) nearest neighbor techniques. Thus taxonomic evidence is gathered so as to quantify the similarity for each pair of OTUs (pair-group method) obtained from the basic data matrix. The main contribution of the present work is to introduce the concept of spectrum of the OTUs, based in the states of their characters. The concept of families’ spectra emerges, if the superposition principle is applied to the spectra of the OTUs, and the groups are delimited through the maximum of the Bienaymé-Tchebycheff relation, that determines Invariants (centroid, variance and radius). Applying the integrated, independent domain technique dynamically to compute the Matrix of Similarity, and, by recourse to an iterative algorithm, families or clusters are obtained. A new taxonomic criterion is thereby formulated. An astronomic application is worked out. The result is a new criterion for the classification of asteroids in the hyperspace of orbital proper elements (the well-known Families of Hirayama). Using an updated database of asteroids we ascertain the robustness of the method. Thus, a new approach to Computational Taxonomy is presented, that has been already employed with reference to Data Mining. The Informatics (Data Mining and Computational Taxonomy), is always the original objective of our researches.Eje: Ingeniería de Software y Base de DatosRed de Universidades con Carreras en Informática (RedUNCI

Integrated environment of systems automated engineering

The Standardization of a development process for systems of medium complexity, entirely supported by an integrated development environment, could mean a double contribution to the industry of systems development. On the one hand it would contribute to the reduction of costs by shortening times of development and facilitating the maintenance of the systems. On the other hand, by using conceptual models of a high level of abstraction, final users would be able to visualize and follow the progress of systems development and to commit themselves in the process actively, guaranteeing their success. The purpose of this series of papers is to identify, design, develop and integrate the components of an integrated environment for a system automated development, starting from high-level-abstraction formal specifications. It is intended to achieve a generation of systems starting from only two models: the static or data structure model, and the dynamic or functional model. The former is based on an adaptation of the conceptual pattern of entities and relationships, and the latter on the formal specification of operations in objects relational algebra and on the finite automaton theory. The maintenance of the systems generated by the tool would be made by operating directly on the static and dynamic models, with no need for either re-coding or making reverse engineering. The strength of the proposal is based on integration of the Software Engineering and the analysis and metrics of quality. Storage protocols of data definitions and storage protocols of interface definitions corresponding to a graph, through the state transitions and their gradation so that the user could visualize the development of the life cycle[6][32][33][47]. Any artifact or document can be measured and estimated if it is produced during the software life cycle. This study is an approximation to a process of activities supported by an effective help tool. Abstraction and visualization capacities are provided to the artifacts with the system design and analysis (CASE). Such artifacts under controlled conditions trace the software life cycle taking information of the structure (framework) of the application; with Quality, Reliability and Metrics.Eje: Ingeniería de Software y Base de DatosRed de Universidades con Carreras en Informática (RedUNCI
